ESCAPE NOTES

This c.1797 Federal style handyman special in Fannettsburg, Pennsylvania, was originally built by John McAllen (1768-1840) with bricks made from his personal kiln and who operated it as McAllen Inn. It was handed down to his son, John Franklin McAllen (1824-1887), a farmer and mill owner who with his wife Elizabeth raised 10 children here. John’s sister Sarah Jane was married to Dr. John S. Flickinger, and they lived next door.

At one point the inn’s name was changed to Washington Inn due to the rumor that George Washington may have spent a night here.

A new slate roof has been installed and a lot of work has been started , but restoration needs to be completed.
